The Ancient Tea Horse Road is an ancient trade route formed by the tea trade via horse from the tropical areas of southern Yunnan to the snow-covered plateaus of the Himalayas. It is not one road but consists of separated trails divided into the Qinghai-Tibet route, the Yunnan-Tibet route and the Sichuan-Tibet route.

Strange name, great place! In Yunnan's north, close to our neighbors Sichuan and Tibet, the Balagezong Grand Canyon offers a splendid scenery of snow caped mountains, dense green forests and villages with Tibetan customs and distinguishing architecture.

The one hundred chicken temple, as Baiji Temple (百鸡寺) would be translated, dates back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368). It is located in the west of Shangri-La's Dukezong Ancient Town and offers an amazing bird's eye view of the ancient town and the surrounding city.

Yunnan is famous for its beautiful scenery and pleasant climate - perfect for holiday and relaxation. But it's also getting famous for something completely different. Have you ever heard of 100k ultra marathons at elevations of over 3800 meters and other unique running events?
